The public sector is best

Alone among all industrialized nations, the US relies on private for profit insurance companies to manage its health care system. The result? The US has by far the most expensive health care system in the world both in total cost and as a percentage of GDP.

Conventional wisdom insists that the private sector is much more efficient than government-run programs. But is that really true? Just today, the New York Times in a front page story reported that private prisons show almost no cost-savings over public one. And here, David Morris shows that privatization is actually more expensive when it comes to Medicare, student loans and the military.
