PHILANTHROPY USA TODAY

It's interesting to do a critical reading of Alternet's interview with Tides Foundation chief Drummond Pike along with a re-reading of the excellent book "The Revolution Will Not Be Funded" (South End Press, 2008).

A serious dialogue on the state of prog philanthropy in the USA is sorely overdue. I've worked directly with Swedish and Dutch foundations and believe me, European funders are much more progressive and open minded than their American counterparts, even the more progressive ones (too bad they generally do not fund anything in the USA or Puerto Rico). In fact, the stuff that in North America is considered radical and cutting edge, in Europe is considered to be mainstream and middle of the road. I strongly recommend the critical investigative work of Joan Roelofs and Mark Dowie on the subject of foundations and philanthropy in the USA.

Ever notice how anti-GMO work is practically unfundable?
